Wrench

The ratcheting wrench emailed to the Space Station and printed in orbit.

The actual model file, as it will be printed. Drag to turn it.

In 2014 an astronaut needed a wrench that was not on board. Rather than wait months for a resupply, the design was sent up as a file and printed on the station — the first time a tool was manufactured in space to meet a need on the spot.

If any object belongs in a 3D printing shop's catalogue, it is probably this one.

Published by NASA in their 3D Resources collection, which they state is free of copyright. Printed to order — scaled to about 80 mm on its longest side, and resizeable on the next page.
